Seriously this was too cool.  This?  "What's this?", you ask.   This is the perpendicular shoulder join -- the technique used to knit the shoulder strap while joining the sweater's front and back all at the same time.

For today's installment in the serial swatch I knit the pattern motifs for the front and then joined the front to the back using shoulder straps and the perpendicular shoulder join.  The center of the shoulder strap featured a small 2 stitch cable.  Cool.  Previous installments: Day 1 & Day 2

You've got to try the perpendicular shoulder join for yourself!

I am so glad you are doing this and I ordered this book! The perpendicular shoulder join looks perfect. I need a horizontal line rather than a raglan diagonal. It also looks to be a very strong join.

That looks totally cool. I have checked that book out of the library before, and I'll have to take another look at it. God willing, I will reach the shoulders of the gansey I'm knitting for my sweetie someday.

A joining technique that uses more knitting instead of sewing is definitely cool in my book.
