The Heft

Blankets -- even ones for itty-bitty babies -- grow so slowly, progressing in fits and starts.  You knit and knit and knit only to find the thing a mere inch or two longer than the last time you measured.  Knit, knit, knit.  And then, all of a sudden -- almost out of no where -- you feel it.  The heft.  The heft of the blanket when you pull it out of the knitting bag.  The heft of the blanket when you place it in your lap.  The heft of the blanket as you knit, knit, knit.  Suddenly it's growing, quickly.  The heft, the Knitter's Tipping Point.

I'm cruising along, now that I've hit the tipping point.
nona can feel the heft.

I'm not sure if it's my old butt or this old chair, but I leave the biggest divot when I get up -- especially after watching several hours of March Madness.  Speaking of which, we have a new leader, "cknof", who is leading the way with 104 points.  If you're one of the leaders -- look to the left to see -- and I don't have your blog let me know so I can link to you.

I know what you mean! I'm working on an entrelac blanket and I'm still a ways away from the tipping point. Looking good!

I haven't knit or crocheted a blanket in ages. But I do have 2 planned to knit sometime in the future. In the meantime, your ripple swatches and link to the ripple blanket now have me itching to make one. Good use for leftover yarn begging to be knit. As if the Chevron Scarf isn't a job and half itself!

Hi Nona,

I'm cknof - Connie - sorry I don't have a blog of my own, I live vicariously through all of you!

I'm having great fun with my knitting and NCAA and it's so exciting to be first - at least for right now! We'll see how we go....Thanks for getting this organized.

Ah the heft - that's when it starts transforming from a bath towel to a blanket.

So, the heft comes "almost out of nowhere" eh? That in itself is inspiration to pull out my stashed (for 2 years) yarn and start on the Sarah Dallas blanket. Thank you.

My Aran Pocket Shawl is at the heft stage (great word for it). I'm knitting to finish it now (and before it gets to warm for a lap full of alpaca-wool).

I love this blanket...I would love to make one for my best friend who will have another girl in a few months. Where is the pattern for this blanket. Is it easy for a beginner to grasp? I'm too excited!!
