Mini Masters

Have you seen?  Purly Whites has hit upon another fabulous idea -- Nancy Bush Master Study: Socks.  True,  nona does like to imagine herself as an independent thinker, but I know a good idea when I see one and I'm jumping on the band wagon.  My Nancy Bush self study will be on a smaller scale -- I'll be knitting the 4 pairs of "Simple Ribbed Socks" from her new book, Knitting Vintage Socks.  This sock sampler offers 4 variations of heel and toe shapings, giving me ample opportunity to compare and contrast.

First up is the "Madder Ribbed Sock", which I'll be knitting in Cherry Tree Hill's Supersock yarn.  This sock has a Dutch (Horseshoe) heel and a Pointed toe.  Let the Mini Master Study begin.

Do you think that Nancy started the whole sock knitting craze a few years ago? I sure do. She is the reason I knit socks at all. Of course I am very lucky to have her here in SLC to take classes from regularly.

It was actually you and purly whites that inspired me to try socks in the first place! I'll be watching the master study with interest. :)

Yay!! I'm so excited to see how your mini-master study turns out. The Madder Rib socks are fun! I really enjoyed the toe and the seam stitch, and well the ribbing pattern. It's all good!

Nona - I am so glad that I found you, and that you found Purly Whites! I've been thinking of starting a Nancy along - four patterns, one each season - to test out different techniques. I wouldn't kick off until the New Year. I mentioned it to PW as well in her comments. What do you think? Could I count you in?

Good on you! I'm intrigued by all the different toes and socks she has in that book too... Will be good to see what you think of them!

Hi Nona! Knitting Vintage Socks looks wonderful - eagerly awaiting your progress (vicarious knitting). Here's where I found that tip about measuring hats using one's hand: http://www.marmalade.ca/archives/002535.html

Happy holidays (and continued happy knitting!)
