The End of a Season

Two more days, two more games, and another baseball season is complete.  nona loves baseball  -- I love the slow pace of the game, I love the unusual play and the nuance of a situation, I love watching nona-son-the-younger field the ball -- but most of all I love hanging out in the bleachers chit chatting and knitting.  Some fans think I'm not really watching the game, but nona always knows the count.

This season I spent much of my bleacher time knitting a spiral fringe scarf out of Koigu yarn on size 3 needles.  Little needles, thin yarn, and long scarf mean lots of knitting fun!  Today, I finished the scarf and sewed on the spirals, which means I'll be wearing the scarf on the bleachers tomorrow and knitting my NBaT.  Play Ball.

nona knit this scarf just for the spiral fringe!

Gorgeous scarf, and great spring colours! I tried the spiral after your "try this" a little while ago, and it was great fun! Hoppsan (crazy female cat) quickly adopted it as her toy, so now I know I have to hide them when I get around to do more of them for my scarf!

Echo Claire - is this pattern a making of your own? It is truly beautiful! I am about to embark on my first project using size 2 and 3 needles. I'm scared!

Beautiful scarf! Nobody's going to pay attention to the game tomorrow because they'll be admiring that fringe!

Some time ago, I managed a knitwear boutique for Save the Children. One volunteer's specialty was a decoration (not a toy) for hanging over a baby crib. It was a cluster of spirals, into the ends of which, she sewed tiny bells. All the other volunteers spent ages trying to figure out how the spiral was made. It was a lovely surprise, as I cast off your "Cast On 40 Sts," and discovered the secret. Thank you.

For those interested in making this scarf, the pattern is from Nicky Epstein's book, Knitting on the Edge. I made my version narrower, using only 42 stitches. If you don't own the book, I highly recommend it!

I accidentally posted this under the original scarf entry (4/21/05), and wasn't sure if it would be seen... It's the "Potato Chip scarf" by Knit Picks:

Here is a new scarf from Knit Pick that is similar... I am planning to try it after I finish my current project (shawl/wrap):

I am going to have to try your spiral fringe, too! Thanks, Nona!
