nona highly recommends the new book on the block, AlterKNITS. Why am I touting this book when there are so may great knitting books on the market? Maybe it's the beautiful presentation. Maybe it's the projects and exercises encouraging you to think outside the box. Or maybe -- just maybe -- its Project #26: "Screen Door"! Even if you're not the least bit interested in knitting a project, the photos are still beautiful, the pattern still interesting, and the approach still intriguing.
May we all think outside the box and "alter" the next project we make, even if it's just a little.
I've recently started to think of making little alterations to knitting patterns, so "alter knits" is an interesting phrase - I like it! Great photos make a book. I can never bring myself to read or buy a cookbook without yummy photos.

I agree, I said the same when I saw the book. Its the way she uses the materials more than the specific patterns. I kept wondering why I couldn't think of them myself!

I've been thinking lately that it would be nice to actually knit a pattern as written. What don't I alter when I knit?

The idea of felting old sweaters and turning them into tote bags alone is almost worth the price of the book. Such a cool idea!

Thanks for the thumbs-up! I've been wondering about that book for a good long while, but haven't had a chance to peek inside yet!

I am IN LOVE with this book- It is really fun, and I can't wait to make most of the projects. I have already completed the sweater purse (see my blog, www.nessienoodle.blogspot.com for results!)
good stuff in there.
