Road Trip

nona-son-the-elder and I are road tripping to LA.  I love road trips -- not sure why -- perhaps it's the simple freedom of no responsibilities and no time schedules -- just taking things as they come.  He'll be attending his USC orientation and I'll be working -- thank goodness for laptops -- and checking out some LA knitting stores -- recommendations anyone?  I'll be back by the end of the weekend and may post here and there if I can pop on the Internet.

Have a good trip - I'll be looking out for your LA yarn store report - we're going out there in a couple of weeks.

Yes, I'd love to see the suggestions you get, too, please. BF and I will be there mid-July for a wedding and while he's performing friend-of-the-groom duties, I'd like to perform love-me-some-fibery-goodness duties. =) In advance, thanks!

Ohhh, have fun, road trips are the best! Take lots of photos--I'll be watching for the yarn report as well, I'm taking a trip out that way in the fall. Not a road trip though, mind you, it's a long drive from Ontario, Canada. :)

LA Yarn Stores? There's many, and many are worthwhile. I'll put a few names down of places I have been and see the link below for a good printable list.

Unwind Yarn (Burbank) - great all around store
Emmaline's (Glendale) - small but friendly
Knit Cafe (LA) - It gets raves but I have never seen what the fuss is all about
Suss Design (LA) - one word, snotty, but her own yarn line is fabulous and very reasonably priced
Wildfiber (Santa Monica) - incredible selection, but a little pricey compared to some other shops I frequent. Great selection of high-end yarns. Excellent book selection.
A Mano Yarn Center (Mar Vista) - Highly recommended, this store has it all. Great selection, great prices, and friendly staff.

Also check this link for a great listing of LA Yarn Shops: http://www.stitchnbitchla.com/resources.htm

I know this is a novella of a comment, but as a knitting Angeleno I feel it is my responsibility to guide you in your stash enhancement.

Peace.

Velona is a pretty far trek, if you're going to be in LA proper. It's at the southern side of Orange County, so more than an hour from just about anywhere you might be. Though if you just *need* to get out there (the store has literally EVERY yarn under the sun), let me know and I'll meet up with you :-)

Have fun! You'll find lots of yarn shops along the way, too. Coming through SLC?

Go to A Mano! You won't regret the trip - it's the friendliest, most laid back, most accomodating knitting store I found while living in Los Angeles. They're also easy to find on the border of West LA/Venice/Santa Monica - it's a really quick drive from the 405 if you get off at the Venice Blvd. exit.

Tell the girls (especially Heather) that Devri (who moved to Seattle) says hello, and misses them dreadfully!

Please visit us at:

Hours:

Th, Fri, Sat, 10a - 6p
Sun 12p - 5p

Nona - Found a yarn store in Charlottesville & bought fuzzy yarn to knit two more scarves in tan & beige. Store: "It's a Stitch". (Jim appropriated a trophy pen from saleswomen.) Happy trails! Winnie

try to stop at Jennifer Knits after July 5th. They are having a huge sale on all yarn in the store, needles and books. They are in Brenwtood off of Barrington right before Sunset. Parking is a little tricky but worth it. Might be pretending I have a doctor's appt so I can leave work for an hour to make the beginning of the sale.
