Red It Shall Be
Thanks to all the red supporters out there who preferred the red trim to the brown trim for nona's t-shirt. I hope you know by now, faithful reader, that nona likes to think for herself, but sometimes you have to go with the group -- so red trim it will be!
I absolutely love knitting with the Calmer and am almost up to the armholes on the back. For the hem I decided to use an alternative turning technique. Instead of using a purl row as the turning row, I used a picot edging -- a bit more feminine nona thinks. Here's how I altered the pattern: (come on continue reading -- you'll see another picture...)
- Cast on
- Starting with a wrong side (WS) row, work 7 rows in stockinette stitch
- Next row -- a right side (RS) row -- work the picot edging. K1 [yo, k2tog]*, k1
- Work 7 rows in stockinette stitch
- Next row -- a RS row -- turn the hem following Alison's directions.
Remember, a pattern is merely a suggestion to the intelligent knitter -- change it to suit your style and knitting preferences.

What a pretty edging! Now I have to frog the whole thing... no I'm kidding again. But I will use the idea some other time I'm sure, thanks for the tip!

That looks great! I'm almost done with side one, making it a little bit longer because I'm freakishly long-waisted (and short-legged...sigh). I like it so far, but think I'll turn the hem on the sleeves and neck at a half-inch, as I'm using no contrasting yarn. Pictures soon!

you weren't kidding, that edge is awfully sweet!

The picot edge does give the T a feminine touch. Does Nona use those strategically placed safety pins to serve as row markers too? Sure beats counting over and over again.

Really pretty. I'm going to do that when I make a second T.

The bamboo yarn for my t-shirt has still not arrived (all the way from Winnipeg.)
I am therefore knitting along in spirit, while working on Sally Melville's "Vine Lace Cardi" from "A Gathering of Lace."

The picot edging is gorgeous - wish I had thought of that too - makes it just a little more feminine. I love special touches like that...
