Knit Along Anyone?
nona has a feeling -- call it knitter's intuition -- that you, like nona, love, love, love Alison's nothin' but a t-shirt pattern published a few days ago on MagKnits. What great shape and details! And did you see that schematic -- nona's in heaven. This t-shirt is begging -- yes begging -- us to create our own versions. What word will you use? Will it be on the front or the back? Will you use Calmer or another equally wonderful yarn? Will you crop yours? Remove the sleeves? Or will you knit it exactly as is?
This pattern needs -- no requires -- a knit along, so nona proposes just that. I know many of us are in the thick of finishing our Sockapolooza socks, so the nothin' but a t-shirt knit along will officially commence on April 1st! Care to join in? Post a comment or send nona an email. nona's curious to see your t-shirt creation! Are you curious to see hers?

I have purple calmer in the stash but no other colors. I will either resign myself to being monochromatic or put the call out to the blog community to see if anyone is willing to do some trading so that I will have a complementary color to work with. In any event, count me in!

I'm in! As soon as I saw that pattern, I ran out and bought lilac for the body and maroon for the trim. I am hoping it will look funky instead of awful... And I am planning to put my name on the front, if I can really quickly learn intarsia.

we can't do it. it's too hard. :(

Dear Nona -- You are the bomb. We received the fingerless gloves yesterday to much jubilation. Sarah will wear them, probably, along with her LEGWARMERS - which are, despite all reason, quite popular again. Perhaps we should knit some?

To my sis--above...YES WE CAN KNIT THAT. To nona--I want to knit that in Sedona...do you think I can get the pattern and yarn quickly enough? I too am sending you an email!

I'd like to joint the knit-along. Have you any substitutes for the All seasons cotton? Is that an Aran weight or heavy worsted weight cotton yarn? Thanks.

Oh, I'm so IN!

I'm so in! I have some Zeal and Bleached Calmer in stash. Woot!
Posted by: Annette | Mar 8, 2005 7:02:24 AM
Count me in. I'll be using some Eden Bamboo (100% bamboo fibre)
Since I am Larger Than Most, I will knit in bustline darts and skip the fitted look.
I will be tempted to lengthen the sleeves, to make it 3-season, but that would defeat the idea of being the perfect summer top!

Yes, I am in!

Count me in!! Too cute! Hmmm...I can't get my hands on any Calmer here so I'll have to improvise. Cezanne by Filati is on sale so maybe I'll give that a try - the tension is fairly close and it's the right weight...what's the worst that could happen right? Must remember to swatch!!

I wanna join!!!
Posted by: Jenni Brown | Mar 8, 2005 1:09:46 PM
OOOooooo. That is cute. But that may be too hard for me to attempt on my own.
Posted by: Donna S. | Mar 8, 2005 2:50:28 PM
Me too. I'm in, but I want to change the neckline, and what do I want on the front???
Posted by: aliceknits | Mar 8, 2005 3:42:09 PM
I'd like to join... this will be my first kint along! And I even have Calmer that was going to be something else but didn't want to! Know it will become the t-shirt, but I too need to buy another color and pick a word.
Posted by: Melissa | Mar 8, 2005 6:04:54 PM
I'm in. My LYS doesn't carry Calmer. The owner even tried to talk me out of using it. ("Don't knit with Calmer unless you've used it before." How is that possible?) So I'm looking...and excited to start!

I would LOVE to join your knit-a-long!!
Thanks so much for hosting it!!

I'd also like to join even though I've already started. I'll try to make posts in english on my blog otherwise you'll have to learn swedish.... :)

I am SO in!!! I just found this pattern and wanted to knit it yesterday! I still have to get the yarn, but should be no problem to get it in time for the knit along. :)

that's quite a knit along you have there

Hi!
I've already joined via e-mail but wanted to post here too. I will be writing in English about this knit-along on my (otherwise all Swedish) blog. See you all on April 1st! ;-)
Posted by: Mia | Mar 14, 2005 2:25:53 PM
I'm in. This will be my first official knit along. I must confess that I am going to use domiknitrix's bruce lee chart on the tee.
Posted by: brooke | Mar 14, 2005 6:08:06 PM
Quick question for anyone...I had planned on using Calmer, but would REALLY like to find a yarn that was machine washable. If I love it as much as I think I will, I want to be able to just toss it in the wash. :)
I've tried to search but don't want an acrylic either...picky, picky, picky...
Feel free to email me or post here if you have any suggestions, thanks!!!
Posted by: Carry | Mar 15, 2005 8:53:16 AM
I just read the comment I made further up in this post and realized what a dopey mistake I made. I was under the delusion that these were made with ASC instead of Calmer. Good grief. I'll try to pay attention now.

Am I too late to join?! Pretty please?

Posted by: Carla | Mar 16, 2005 9:32:27 AM
I've chosen the colors and ordered my yarn! You can see them on my blog. I couldn't find anything to match the calmer so gave up trying.
Posted by: Elizabeth | Mar 16, 2005 9:45:26 AM
Hi all. I just joined too. I just purchased my yarn this morning--Calmer in Sour Apple with either black or lilac trim. I don't know, maybe I will use both colors. I have a weekend trip (7 hour drive, each way) starting tomorrow, I might have to cheat and start early!
Posted by: Susan | Mar 16, 2005 12:15:33 PM
question: are we going to have a blog for this knit-along so we can post photos, questions, etc?
and is everybody doing this with Calmer?
Posted by: Lu | Mar 18, 2005 7:49:53 PM
I'd like to join in! I'll be using Classic Elite Spotlight, which is a soft 100% cotton that knits to the same gauge. I can't even justify starting a new project, so I really can't justify buying yarn! I got this on sale last year but I didn't know what to do with it -- this t-shirt will be perfect.
Posted by: Joan | Mar 26, 2005 2:51:03 PM
I've got my yarn! I'm using a Rowan yarn but instead of Calmer I've decided to use the Hand Knit, 309 & 316. It's washable, though it still can't go in the dryer. At least it's not handwash! ;)
Posted by: Carry | Mar 28, 2005 9:58:49 AM
Herrschners has some suitable yarn, and they're having free shipping March 29, 30, and 31. Anybody who's having trouble finding yarn might try there. You have to click through their e-mail announcement to get the free shipping. I can forward that e-mail to anyone who wants it.
Posted by: Joan | Mar 29, 2005 7:30:17 AM
Hi - can you count me in for the KAL as well? I'm going to be using some discontinued Calmer, changing the neckline to a V-neck and lenthening the sleeves.
Posted by: AmyP | Mar 30, 2005 3:53:00 AM
I have made a decision about the yar - I am using some Jo Sharp Desert Garden from my stash. I am all set to go!
Posted by: Lu | Mar 30, 2005 9:39:56 AM
I'll join! So exciting, this will be my first "big" project...only made scarves and the occasional unfinished sweater before. This time I *will* finish or you can all come here and smack me over the head! =)
Posted by: Anna | Mar 30, 2005 12:31:24 PM
I'd like to join in. What do you think of Paton Grace? I have literally never seen Calmer, so I am not sure what would be comparable, but the gauge seems right.
Posted by: Rebecca | Mar 31, 2005 3:22:39 AM
I'm in! Ooh, I'd better get the yarn today! I'm not sure what image I'll put on it, or even what colors.
Posted by: Alissa | Mar 31, 2005 5:24:00 AM
If it is not too late, I'm in. Buying yarn right now is not an option, and nothing in my stash seemed to be perfect. I finally decided to knit the t-shirt using a linen/ cotton mix (Riviera by Skacel) . Instead of stockinette stitch, I am using a lace patten called Traveling Vine, found in Barbara Walker's "Treasury of Knitting Patterns". I am not sure if these changes still keep me in the "nothin but a T" category, but it seemed to be a good solution for the available yarn.

I'm not afraid to ask the stupid questions and look dopey, so here goes. What do the bust sizes represent--finished size or size to fit that bust size? I'm confused by almost every knitting pattern I look at for the sizing issue unless there is a chart.
Posted by: Elizabeth | Apr 5, 2005 11:00:23 AM
Elizabeth, that is an excellent question. It is often unclear whether the bust size is for your bust size or the garment's bust size. I typically look at the schematic to see how the dimensions compare. For this pattern I would guess that the bust size is for your bust size. For example, the smallest size is for bust size 32, but from the schematic the finished size for the smallest size is 33 (16.5 + 16.5). Also, if the bust size is the garment's bust size, patterns often say "Finished Size".
nona hopes she's not leading you astray!
Posted by: nona | Apr 5, 2005 9:36:58 PM
Thank you Nona. I forgot to look down at the bottom for the schematic since I haven't even swatched yet. I think you explained it perfectly. I'm always glad to see the schematic for a pattern.

Hey everyone, Alison just pointed this out to me...count me in. I have a bag of Flamingo that I'd like to use and I'm looking to trade a ball or 2 for a contrasting color (brown, purple, blue...I'm not fussy). Send me an email or post here if you want to trade. Yay, it's starting to feel a lot like Spring.
Posted by: Cathy | Apr 6, 2005 3:09:56 PM
I'm seriously late to this but I'd like to sign up too, if possible. Thank you Nona!
Posted by: Heidi | Apr 12, 2005 6:38:22 AM
Hi! I'm late too - but I ordered my Calmer last night, and I'd like to join along too!
Posted by: MA | Apr 13, 2005 3:04:07 PM
Has anyone decided if they are going to include a graphic on their T-shirt? I haven't yet. I'm thinking I should keep it simple as I'm not that great at knitting intarsia and I could use a plain tee. however I did some research and found some sources for knitting graphs online. You can see them at my blog. Adios.
Posted by: Elizabeth | Apr 15, 2005 9:49:00 AM
Please add me to the list. Just what I need -- one more project. But I've been thinking about what to put on Alison's Tee since the moment I saw it!

Hi I'm late to the party, as usual, but I still want in. Sending an email too :)
Posted by: Alana | May 11, 2005 7:27:05 AM
I always feel like everyone else on the knitting web is just so ultra-cool and ahead of me in every trend. I only discovered this pattern and the KAL the other day. Can I be forgiven? I live in Buffalo, NY. Spring comes LATE here. Anyway, I also had to finish my Clapotis before digging into this one, and I finally did that this morning while waiting for my car to be repaired. Yippee! Now I have to search the stash and h-o-p-e-f-u-l-l-y find suitable yarn for an NBaT!
Posted by: Beth S. | May 13, 2005 12:04:43 PM
Hi Nona, can you change my entry on the list to point to my brand new blog? I finally have some progress and pics to share.
Thanks

I just emailed you! I want in, too, even though I am so late.

Posted by: Annemarie | Jun 8, 2005 6:46:48 AM
hi nona, please sign me up for the NBaT. i started mine a few days ago and will post pics soon. thx!
Posted by: lynette | Jun 18, 2005 8:26:50 AM
Sigh. I have to bail out on this knitalong because my yarn ended up being a bad choice (Manos Cotton Stria). I don't have any Calmer and also am trying not to buy more yarn...so I'm shelving it for the time being. Thank you for organizing this!

I'd love to join in late - I just printed out the pattern today and plan to do my gauge swatch tonight.

Knitting a t-shirt, although a late joiner, is going fast, just put my stripes on the back, and they are so cool. Hope to finish by end July!

Hey, I never actually, officially JOINED, but I did just finish my NbaT, and figured I'd, you know, mention it! (grin) http://chappysmom.typepad.com/bookworm/2005/07/just_dont_call_.html

Can anyone tell me of a site where I can learn to transfer motifs that I draw, on to graph paper so that I can knit them into face cloths?!?
Posted by: Elena Corral | Aug 11, 2006 2:42:28 PM
I would love to make the shirt. Has anyone tried a comparable yarn successfully and if so please let me know what it is and where you got it. Thanks
